12-inch live projectile detonated on Ramsey beach

Fri, 23 Feb 2018

The Isle of Man Coastguard is reminding Manx residents of the importance of reporting all suspicious objects after a 12-inch live projectile was found on Ramsey beach.

The discarded ordnance was spotted by a member of the public earlier this week in a rock pool south of Queen's Pier.

Members of the coastguard protected the site until a team from the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Unit arrived on the Island to detonate the device.

The projectile had been in the water for many years, and was moved to a sandy area where it could be exploded under controlled conditions.

Anyone who comes across such an item should call 99 and ask for the coastguard straight away.
