Chief Minister wants minimum broadband speed for Manx homes, businesses

Tue, 27 Feb 2018

The Chief Minister wants all homes on the Isle of Man to have access to broadband with a download speed of at least 30 megabits per second.

Howard Quayle confirmed in this morning's sitting of the House of Keys that a report due to be published next month will recommend high speed internet should be guaranteed for all Manx homes and businesses.

The announcement came following a query from Ayre & Michael MHK Tim Baker, who wanted to know what was being done to improve broadband services for those in rural areas.

The average download rate on the Island is just over 9mbps, while homes in the UK get an average of 16.5mbps.
