The way the Government compiles tourism figures is to be reviewed following the recent publication of the annual Passenger Survey.

The Cabinet Office's figures suggested the number of people visiting the Isle of Man last year fell by almost 9%, despite hoteliers, the ferry operator and other businesses reporting an increase in visitors.

Speaking at this month's sitting of Tynwald, the Department of Enterprise member with responsibility for tourism Rob Callister confirmed the approach to the survey will be reviewed.

Mr Callister revealed the Department will work with the Cabinet Office and tourism industry to find a better and more frequent way of measuring tourism, adding that a review to the way the data is collected and presented is long overdue.
