Government spends £70,000 on post-Paradise Papers PR

Thu, 03 May 2018

The Government's Cabinet Office spent £70,000 on public relations work following the release of the Paradise Papers.

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan confirmed the money was used in the aftermath of the scandal last year.

The Isle of Man was one of a number of jurisdictions whose tax practices were called into question after over 13 million confidential documents were published.

The money was taken from the Revenue Contingency Budget, which also funded the Financial Supervision Authority's was on the Depositors Compensation Scheme, as well as increased staffing costs at the Financial Crime Unit following the MONEYVAL review.
