Fire service warns against burning off during races

Fire crews are urging landowners not to burn of crops of vegetation while the roads are closed.

Members of the Island's fire service were called to Richmond Hill yesterday to tackle an area that was being burned off but had been left unattended.

The fire brigade recommends such fires aren't started when the roads are closed for racing.

Landowners are also urged to notify the emergency services before burning off.
