James Cowton killed in Southern 100 crash

One rider has died and another is in a critical condition following a four-rider crash at the Southern 100.

James Cowton succumbed to his injuries follpwing the incident at Stadium Bends during the 600cc Challenge race earlier today, which was the penultimate race of this year's meeting.

Ivan Lintin is in a critical condition, while Jamie Coward sustained shoulder injuries and Mickey Evans has leg and arm injuries.

Cowton was a six-time podium finisher at the Southern 100 and had a podium finish at the TT during the 2014 Lightweight Race.

Southern 100 racing has extended its condolences to Cowton's friends, relatives and family.

A full investigation will be carried out by the organisers and Isle of Man Constabulary on behalf of the Coroner of Inquests.
