The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is working to find ways to help farmers affected by the recent spell of dry and hot weather.

DEFA Minister Geoffrey Boot revealed at this month's sitting of Tynwald that he's held talks with the Manx National Farmers Union in a bid to identify the type and level of assistance needed.

Mr Boot says the recent rain has provided some relief, but for many crops the damage has already been done and more rain is needed to make a significant difference.

Ramsey MHK Alex Allinson had asked whether the Department would provide financial assistance, but the Minister explained other practical and logistical options are being explored, with an announcement expected in the next couple of weeks.
