OFT urges sailors, swimmers to check rescue lines

Tue, 14 Aug 2018

The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading is urging those who take part in activities in water to ensure their safety equipment is up to scratch.

The UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch is warning of defective throw bag rescue lines.

As a result, the OFT is urging owners and operators of commercial and recreational craft, rowing clubs, swimming clubs and other users to inspect their rescue lines.

The organisation says the entire length of the rescue line should be examined for joins, which can be done with bare hands to find rough patches of lumps.

Any issues can be reported to the OFT by calling 686500.
