Douglas Borough Council have honoured the life and work of a women's suffrage activist with a blue plaque.

Sophia Goulden, the mother of British suffragette movement leader Emmeline Pankhurst, was born in Lonan and owned a home in Douglas, where she and husband lived after they retired.

The blue plaque has been placed at her former home at 9 Strathallan Crescent.

The plaque was unveiled by the Mayor following a short ceremony.
