FlyBe Punish Passengers With £50 Fee At Departure Gate

Thu, 24 Jan 2019

Passengers of troubled airline, FlyBe have reacted angrily to the airline’s action on hand baggage.

FlyBe staff have been demanding passengers luggage is ‘sized’ at the Gate just before boarding, leaving many with a punishing £50 penalty.

Passengers are left with no choice as if they don’t pay up, they will not be allowed to board the aircraft.

One passenger contacted Energy FM News last night after paying the £50 fine.

Foxdale resident ‘Mark’, who travels regularly for work, has used his bag for the last 15 years. He said the bag fits in to the overhead lockers and has never been an issue. He said he will switch to the Easyjet service in future on the Liverpool route, but is stuck with FlyBe when he has to travel to Manchester.

Passengers are accusing the airline of last ditch attempts to ‘money grab’ due to the airline being in financial difficulties. FlyBe is still one of the most expensive airlines that flies Isle of Man routes.

Last week it was announced that a consortium including Virgin Atlantic and Stobart Air, had bought the failing airline, however the sale has been put in doubt as shareholders are said to be taking legal action in an attempt to stop the deal.
