Talks held on future of Ramsey Courthouse

Mon, 25 Mar 2019

A decision over the future use of Ramsey courthouse may soon be announced, with talks held between an interested party and the town’s commissioners.

The building was purchased by the local authority in 2017 from the government for a nominal fee of £80,000, funded via cash reserves.

The remainder of the £475,000 asking price for the former courthouse will be paid back in annual instalments of £14,800 over the next 25 years.

Three interested parties responded when expressions of interest were invited for what the building may be used for in future.

Meeting have been held between the commissioners and one of these groups, though discussions have remained in private.

It’s understood terms and leasing arrangements are being arranged, with an announcement expected in the coming months.

In documents published by the local authority, it’s revealed the interested party intends to operate as a ‘not for profit partnership’.
