German Commissioners have expressed concerns over the possible loss of the St John’s post office counter, a service described as ‘vital’ for the village community.

This week the local authority met with Peel and Glenfaba MHKs Geoffrey Boot and Ray Harmer, along with Post Office Chairman Julie Edge MHK and CEO Simon Kneen to discuss the issue.

It comes following the resignation of the St John’s counter sub-postmaster Rob Knighton earlier this month, a role that has not been re-advertised.

German Commissioners have stressed the ‘important social aspect to the service for residents and those in the surrounding area’.

It’s understood the owner of the Central Stores, the shop from which the St John’s branch operates, is keen to ensure the counter remains open.

The local authority has committed to working with both the Post Office and shop owner to investigate ‘what options are on the table’ for the continuation of the service.
