Athol park closure timing 'not ideal' admits commissioners' chairman

The chairman of Port Erin Commissioners admits closing the popular Athol Park play areas for refurbishment during the summer holidays is ‘not ideal’.

Godfrey Egee says both local and off-Island contractors will be working on the project, and ‘unfortunately this means finding a time when all are free is crucial’.

He adds the authority wasn’t happy with the estimated start date of August 12, but were reluctant to postpone the project and risk further delays.

Kompan Limited will be installing the new play equipment, with local businesses completing the landscaping required for the scheme.

It’s costing the authority £90,000 and is expected to take five weeks to complete.

Mr Egee told Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne the board was conscious improvements had to be made at the park sooner rather than later:
