One of the South’s most iconic and most popular cafes lies derelict at the peak of the tourist summer season.

The Cosy Nook Café was always a destination for tourists and locals but after Port Erin Commissioners decided they wanted a change, this summer the popular café is empty and instead a mobile catering trailer stands on the almost deserted plot.

We contacted the Chairman of the Commissioners on 23rd October 2018 and asked:

“What do the commissioners plan to do with this facility as the cafe has provided an excellent service for many years and even last Sunday it was one of the few places where you could get a nice pot of tea, scone and a light lunch.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing what your plans are for the future of this iconic spot on the seafront.”

We never received the courtesy of a reply from Mr Watterson (Chairman Port Erin Commissioners).

Phillip and Sue Maltby had run the café for over a decade and their lease expired in May. They posted on social media earlier this year that one of the Commissioners said ‘they wanted them (the Maltby’s) out’.

It is not known when the popular cafe will offered out to an operator. But for now the once busy beauty spot, sits in the shadow of a mobile catering van until the Commissioners decide what will happen.

This photograph of the site, was posted today on social media by Carol Braid.
