'The road isn't safe' – Kirk Michael residents call public meeting

The main road through Kirk Michael is ‘simply not safe’ according to residents, who say traffic calming measures are ‘badly needed’.

They’re calling for the introduction of 20mph speed limits and safe spaces for pedestrians, to tackle the issue of heavy goods vehicles passing through the village at speed.

Designs for improvements to the highway will be presented by the Department of Infrastructure at a public meeting next Thursday (26 September).

DoI Minister Ray Harmer, Ayre and Michael MHKs Alfred Cannan and Tim Baker, and local commissioners will be at the event, which starts at 6pm in the Community Civic Centre.

Members of the local authority are asking as many villagers as possible to attend the meeting, and make their views known on what the department has proposed.
