Petition to allow Syrian refuge on Island rejected by Tynwald

A petition to allow Syrian refugees to live here has been rejected by Tynwald.
 
Yesterday Chief Minister Howard Quayle voiced his views opposing the motion, saying that finanical aid from the Island has donated £60,000  - the same amount to house 25 of them here.
 
Garff MHK Daphne Caine supported the petition, which was initiated by students from Ballakermeen High School.
 
She told Energy FM although she and the students are disappointed with the outcome, she's proud of the students for taking part in politics:
