IOMFRS reaffirm sky lantern warning ahead of NYE celebrations

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service are reaffirming residents not to use sky lanterns during New Year's Eve celebrations.

Last month IOMFRS and the Office of Fair Trading warned people of the dangers the lanterns bring to wildlife and the environment.

They are usually made of paper supported by a wire frame, carried into the sky by heat from a flame and can travel huge distances. 

IOMFRS Chief Fire Officer Kevin Groom spoke to Energy FM about some of the risks:
