King William’s College will begin a complete refurbishment of its science facilities.

Seven laboratories are to be redesigned and fitted out with the latest equipment together with the school’s Bragg Lecture Theatre, which is named after former pupil, the Physics Nobel Laureate William Bragg.

Subject to planning approval, the redevelopment has been made possible by a very substantial donation from the MacLeod family.

The donation is in memory of one of five brothers who all attended KWC, Dosch, who passed away in 2014 following a car accident.

With ambitions to study medicine at university, the college hopes that the new science wing, which will be named in his honour, will enable others to achieve that goal.

Work on the new development will start as soon as term ends in July and a formal opening will take place in the autumn when the new facilities are completed.

Joss Buchanan, Principal of the College, commented: ‘This is the most generous bequest the College has received in its modern history. We are extremely grateful to the MacLeod family for their outstanding generosity and we are delighted that it honours the memory of Dosch who was such a popular member of the College community and who we all knew so well. It is a game-changer in terms of our facilities and generations to come will benefit from these state of the art facilities.'
