Ultrafast broadband accelerated from five years to four years

Wed, 30 Sep 2020

The Manx Government has committed funds to accelerate the roll out of ultrafast fibre broadband to pass >99% of homes by one year.

Government is accelerating its national broadband plan as part of the treasury minister’s economic recovery programme.

Currently only 35 per cent of homes have access to ultrafast broadband, but fibre is due to be laid in Baldrine, Colby and Douglas over the next six months.

Work is also currently underway in Ballakilpheric, Derbyhaven, Glen Auldyn, and Sulby.

The area of Gansey is already online.

The economic recovery programme is designed to protect jobs and secure investment following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Manx Telecom received £10 million this year to deliver the network across the Island.
