Schoolchildren urged to wear 'extra layers' as windows will be open to ventilate classrooms

Tue, 30 Nov 2021

Children attending Arbory School have been told to wrap up warm as doors and windows will opened to ventilate the school.

It follow concerns over coronavirus and poor ventilation in the school building despite it being Winter.

The school has written to parents asking children to wear extra layers.

In response, the Education Minister Julie Edge told Energy FM: "Adequate ventilation reduces how much virus is in the air and as such reduces the risk of transmission. Schools are able to achieve natural ventilation through opening windows and doors."

"It is acknowledged that as we are in the colder months, this does not mean opening all windows and doors all the time – this is a managed process to ensure that both students and staff are not cold. To support this approach, schools have been advised to relax uniform policy and allow children to wear a warm jumper if needed."
