Residents and businesses urged to prepare flood defences

Tue, 21 Mar 2023

Residents and businesses are asked to prepare flood defences, following the amber weather warning in place from this evening.

High winds and a high spring tide are expected to cause some coastal overtopping this evening at approximately 11.30pm with inner harbour flooding likely during the high tide tomorrow at approximately 11.50am.

The area’s most at risk this evening are Shore Road Rushen, Castletown Promenade, northern and central parts of Douglas Promenade Laxey & Ramsey Promenades.

At lunchtime tomorrow inner harbour flooding is likely to affect the Tongue in Douglas, North Quay, Lake Road, Ramsey West Quay and Mezeron Corner with a small risk for Parliament Street.

Residents and Businesses in the affected areas will be able to collect sandbags this evening from the following locations, supplies will be replenished tomorrow morning;

Ramsey – Mezeron Corner and by the Swing Bridge

Douglas – North Quay and Lake Road

Sandbags will also be available at the following locations tomorrow morning:

Castletown – Milner Terrace

Laxey – by the Pipe Factory on the promenade

There may be a need to close some promenades which will be monitored continuously. Temporary defences are being deployed around Castletown Harbour and Ramsey Harbour.
