A Douglas Councillor says there won’t be enough parking if the Westmoreland Road development goes ahead.

Stephen Pitts, says ‘questions need to be answered’ on parking permits and the play area isn’t up to ‘requirements’ for the number of properties planned.

Councillor Pitts says the new development should have a bigger proportion of affordable accommodation.

"I’m for, I’m for new development but not on the scale that’s happening there and with the amount of car parking space that’s going to be provided, that’s one of my main concerns. The play area to me is not what would be required for the amount of properties that are going to be there."

The councillor said parking was an issued raised by local residents.

"It’s mainly the parking because you can go around there anytime the day. Or night it’s. Very, very difficult to get a get a space. So with limited parking on the actual site, if the residents do have cars, which I’m sure many of them will have, where are they going to park their vehicles?  Which I’m sure they won’t be able to get parked and payments have not meant to have cars, so a lot of questions need to be need to be answered on what what’s going to happen. If you have a car will not be allocated, one of the houses, and they’re all rentals as well. I think that that all new development should have an allocation of first time buy homes. Otherwise the younger children in Douglas are never going to get their foot in the door and buy a house."
