Faragher's Free Range Eggs to cease trading

Thu, 09 Nov 2023

After 27 years of producing Manx eggs, Faragher’s Free Range Eggs are to cease trading due to increasing costs of feed, transportation to the Island and packaging.

In a social media post, Jackie Faragher of Faragher’s Free range eggs said the “decision has not been made lightly”.

One of the reasons being shipping, Jackie explained that the original way of shipping pullets to the Island “is now no longer an option” to them, as the shipping company "would need to get a importation license".

According to the post, the shipping company is “in discussion with the Government about this, but there’s no guarantee they will get it. Getting new laying birds is time sensitive, we need them now".

The only other option of shipping is not cost effective for Faragher’s, she added that:

“This means we simply can’t compete with the cheap imported eggs. We have struggled this year to get pullets due to last years Bird Flu, this hindered our quantity of eggs available for sale."

There is no closing date, “just when the last lot of hen’s stop laying”.
