Report finds Liverpool Ferry Terminal project 'hopelessly ambitious'

Thu, 16 Nov 2023

The 74 page report into the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal in Liverpool comes following an investigation carried out by Tynwald's Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The committee, made up of Tynwald members, has made six recommendations which will go before Tynwald in 2024.

"The Isle of Man Ferry Terminal in Liverpool was a project with a rushed delivery timescale, which was inadequately planned and proved to be hopelessly ambitious in its initial budgeting.  Our comprehensive report provides an account of the project’s early stages and sets out how a capital project estimated at £18m, will escalate to around four times its initial cost”, that’s according to Rushen MHK and Speaker of the House of Keys, Juan Watterson.

It also notes its disappointment at the lack of low and zero carbon technologies in the project.

It states that “we note that the June 2019 report did not include any consideration or comparison of the total financial cost of installing and using these technologies versus the installed solution for their expected lifetime”.

A link to the report (grab a cup of tea and some biscuits for this one) is here.
